The robots are coming!
I'm a big fan of the tech news, and lately I've been seeing more and more articles about artificial intelligence. I just finished testing out a couple of chatbots - Mitusku and Cleverbot and boy, they're just amazing. I mean I had a chat with that Eugene Goostman chatbot maybe 12 months ago now. Apparently it passed the Turing test meaning it convinced at least some people that it was a person rather than a computer.... but I wasn't convinced at all. But man these two chatbots mitusku and cleverbot took it to another level! I was actually starting to think that a real person was having a laugh at my expense!
It really does appear that artificial intelligence is going to be huge in the coming years and decades. I'd say it'll be a turning point like when computers first starting coming into the mainstream. There's so many amazing things being achieved nowadays, like IBM's Watson supercomputer winning Jeopardy. Then there's Google's AlphaGo that won a game of Go against the world's top player. Apparently there are more possible moves in a game of Go than atoms in the universe?! That makes chess (which by the way IBM's Deep Blue beat Kasparov at back in 1997) seem like a game of naughts and crosses! Apparently an AI can now learn to play at an International Master level in 72 hours.
What these chatbots and game-winning computers have in common is they all use neural networks to learn how to achieve their specific goal. It's the same with self-driving cars. They learn to drive using neural networks, and the results are amazing. If you haven't already, I encourage you to take a look - there's some great info on medium. And more on YouTube.
There's so much more that this new breed of computers will do, I think we've only just scratched the surface. It really is an exciting time to be alive. I personally can't wait to see what's around the corner.
